Maine Artists we love…Sara O’Brien at Griffin-vites

Finding Sara O’Brien of Griffin-vites at a bridal show in York a few years ago was like breath of fresh air.  Her custom water color stationery enchanted me, and we immediately became fast friends.  In fact, I loved her work so much, that I asked her to design an invite to my daughter’s first birthday party–she came up with the most adorable seahorse invite (I also asked her to do the 2nd…and 3rd…I’m addicted, what can I say?).  And ever since, she has been enchanting all her wedding clients as well with her beautiful, custom water color designs. She often is inspired by her own coastal home towns of York Harbor, Maine and Nantucket, Massachusetts.  But her specialty lies in creating unique designs around any concept a client wants.
She normally works in high end weddings and creates the entire stationery suite for the event–from save the dates to layered invite suites to table cards to custom signage.  The rustic elegance of her signature watercolor paper and style really comes through in this autumn inspired menu below.Check out the incredible detail work on this Brooklyn Botanic Gardens save the date below…it does everything a save the date should…a hint of the amazing affair to come.   I want to be at that elegant soiree! Her work is so pretty!  Can you tell I’m a fan??  The best part?  They are all 100% one of a kind, original works of art.  It doesn’t get any better than that for a special event like a wedding. And now for our Something Blue Maine Favorite People Questionnaire!  Can’t wait for you to read her answers!!  Not surprised by her favorite colors answer–if you saw her cute impeccably decorated coastal house, you would know why!

My son and my husband.  They are my world and inspire me everyday countless ways.

Most influential person in your professional life and why?
There are numerous people who have impacted my professional life!  I take such inspiration from driven, talented artists… and business people.  Everyone has something to teach… and there is something to learn everywhere.

Most influential person in your creative life and why?
My mother.  She can do it all!  We share a love of painting, interior design and architecture.  She is incredible.

Current project you are most excited about?
Phew, this has been a whirlwind of a season already!  We’ve created so many custom designs that I’m excited about!  Some of our current projects reflect that Maine ‘look’ (of course!), a private horse farm, country winery, the Boston waterfront… Nantucket cream-colored hydrangeas… spring-time ferns & garden… oh, we worked on an rendering of the Agricultural Hall on Martha’s Vineyard— that was fun!
