I was thrilled when Cody & John asked me to photograph their Maine lakes region wedding. Many people bee-line it to the coast when planning a wedding, but wandering around one of Maine’s interior lakes regions reveals many hidden gems.
Cody is from Tucson and John grew up in Miami. They met in Ithaca New York. So where they would tie the knot might be a quandary, you would think. But Cody “knew instantly” that they wanted to get married in at John’s family Summer lake house in Belgrade Lakes region “because it’s our favorite weekend destination and we were sure our friends and family would enjoy it as much as we did.”Cody’s favorite moment from the wedding was “when my dad walked me into the church filled with friends and family…I knew it was the start of an amazing day.” Even though many things didn’t go according to the plan (like when they forgot the rings at the church and the car died on the way home), Cody took the advice of her sister to “enjoy every moment because the day will fly by in the blink of an eye.”The couple didn’t want a typical wedding day…they wanted something casual and fun. They chose a palette based on breezy blues and pinks with a hint of preppiness. Their search for a unique food menu turned up Muddy River Catering. “They planned a traditional BBQ meal of pulled pork, chicken, ribs, and all the fixins. We loved it so much that now we make sure to stop in when traveling to and from Maine.”What I remember of their day was the amazing weather–we had brilliant blue skies all afternoon, then a classic Summer thunderstorm during dinner. Cody remembers dancing into the night against the most beautiful Maine sunset.Things we love about Cody & John’s Lakes Wedding…
